Sam Taylor Wood: STILL LIFE 2001

Sam Taylor Wood’s Still life is highly inspiring to my project. It Documents the Decay of A fruit bowl (Still life) in the simplest form, by videoing it over time. This is a very simple piece but also an incredibly powerful one. You do not expect the fruit to end up how it does, purely because on a day to day basis we bin food before it gets to this stage of decay. There is something very beautiful about this video.

The setting is perfect, and what better example of decay over time could I possibly be influenced by. Sam Taylor Wood encourages me to explore film to capture a moment in time as she has done. There is something quite interesting about her use of a blue biro in the foreground, to me it’s a clear juxtapostion between things that change and mould over time and things that do not. I admire this work.
